Editorial policy: how we write our guides

Guides rely on official sources, nothing unverifiable is written, competitors are named only with what their own pages say, and there is a route for corrections. Helplines are listed here too.

Whose name these pages are published under

Watchover pages are published under the brand; articles are not signed with a personal name. Someone looking for a way to stop gambling needs checkable information, not a personal stage. What makes information trustworthy is that sources are shown, and the rest of this page describes how.

How a guide is written

  • Official sources first. Legislation, official journals, a scheme's own pages and publications from health bodies come before secondary news sites. Sources are shown in or under the text.
  • What we cannot verify is not written. If we cannot confirm a figure or date on an official page we leave it out or say "we don't know". Numbers are not invented, rounded up or prettified.
  • Written around the question people ask. Each guide answers a real question: what it is, the steps, how long it takes, how to undo it. The answer is at the top, in the summary.
  • No sermon, no shame. Someone who wants to stop gambling does not get a lecture, and failure is never presumed.
  • No prices, ratings or reviews. The pages state no price, store rating or user review; the App Store shows the current price.
  • Competitors. When we name another product we report only what its own page says, give the link and the date we looked, and write "not verified" where we could not confirm something. We do not disparage anyone.

Updates and corrections

Guides show an "Updated" date that matches the dateModified in the page's structured data. When an official source changes, the page is updated and the date renewed. If you spot a mistake, write via the support page; once verified, we correct it and renew the date.

Commercial relationship

Watchover is an app and these pages also promote it. We do not hide that: every page has a download link. But what the guides say does not depend on using the app; self-exclusion schemes, bank blocks and free helplines are explained independently of it.

Data pages

Figures come only from our own data, are recomputed each time the site is built and are published with their method. Example: new gambling domains in numbers. These figures are lower bounds and are presented as such; no general-rate claims are made.
